About Us
Last updated on Feb 14, 2026
Founded in 1986, PGIMF is a lay-run Mennonite congregation. Though our spiritual heritage is Anabaptist-Mennonite, we come from a variety of traditions and ethnic backgrounds, and we freely borrow worship styles and liturgical elements from other traditions.
In 1986, a small group of people started the Pacific Centre for Discipleship Association (PCDA), initially for the purpose of operating the Menno Simons Centre, a residence for university students, formerly a convent. A number of these people also started Point Grey Fellowship. Since these people came from Mennonite Brethren, General Conference, and Old Mennonite backgrounds, they had the vision of establishing an inter-Mennonite congregation. The congregation eventually changed its name to Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship and was a member of both the Mennonite Brethren and Mennonite Church Conferences for many years. In 2022, the congregation decided to leave the Mennonite Brethren Conference. For more information see news item of April 3, 2022. Our worship includes hymn singing, bible readings, responsive readings, prayers, teachings, and the opportunity to share your prayer concerns and praise items. We are known for our tradition of also encouraging open dialogue during time set aside for responses to the “talk” (which may or may not always fit into the category of a traditional “sermon”). We are a lay-lead congregation. Our speakers on Sundays include our members, as well as a variety of guest speakers, occasionally from a distance by Zoom.
When we meet in person, all are welcome to stay for coffee, tea and snacks.
A congregation does more than worship on Sunday mornings. Behind the scenes, our volunteers handle other essential tasks: administrating, communicating, overseeing complex tech tasks, providing care, and organizing social events.
